Potty training
Hana is potty training. I decided that she was (and has been for a while) ready and we were running out of regular diapers and I just don't want to buy any more, and I guess that I am feeling a little less tired so we made the big plunge into full time potty training.
She is doing very good. It's been five days and she makes all her shi shi in the potty and her doo doo too. We have a big sticker chart up and Hana is filling it up quickly. Today at the playground we used the public toilet for the first time. It was very exciting. When we go several days with no messes in her special pull-up diapers, then we will switch to her new big girl panties. Whoo hoo! And then we have to work on overnight. Such fun.

Play date
Yesterday Hana had her first drop off play date. Mommy and Daddy had to go to a parents tour of the preschool, so Hana stayed with her friend Tenzi and her Mommy. I dropped off Hana at 10am, and she told me she would like me to stay too, but I said that I had to go, and would be back soon, so she just sat down and started playing. Tenzi on the other hand was very sad to see me go. Apparently, the girls had a great time together. They played puzzles, and colored, and danced and yelled and screamed and ran all around the house. When I arrived to pick Hana up they were having a snack, sitting nicely at the table. Both girls are potty training and had been using the potty all morning with no accidents. We all played some more, and then when it became obvious that the girls were thoroughly exhausted, we went home and had a nap.
Today we are going to a group play date. It's a weekly group of mommies that meet with their kids of various ages. Hopefully it goes well. Last time Hana had fun with the toys, but didn't really care for the other kids that were there. I must say that I agreed with her, but it's something to do on a cold day. One of the mommies wants to start a recipe exchange. Good grief.

Some time last week Hana an I were looking at her baby scrap book and she was asking about different pictures and she saw one of me and her visiting Grandpa's grave on Maui. She asked what it was, and I told her that we were visiting my Daddy. She looked at me and said, "where is your Daddy?" So I told her that my Daddy died, and that he was buried on Maui, and then I changed the subject. The next day while we were sitting on the couch, she brought the subject up again, "where's your Daddy Mommy?" So I told her that my Daddy had died a long time ago, and that he is burred on Maui, where her Grandmas live, and her cousin and then I changed the subject by naming all of her relatives that live on Maui. Now I knew that she understood what died meant because we have flowers that died and then we threw them away, so I was a little worried about what she was thinking. So the next day when she brought it up again I added that Grandpa is in heaven now. The following day we were in the bedroom and she noticed a picture that I have near my bed and she asked who it was. I told her that it was a picture of my Daddy on Maui. She asked to see it, and she looked at it a while, and she said, "oh Mommy, that's your Daddy!" I said yes and put the picture back on the shelf. Today she noticed the picture again.
"Mommy can I see the picture of your Daddy?"
I gave her the picture.
"He died, he went to heaven."
"Yes sweetie, that's right."
"Mommy, do you want to share my Daddy with me?"
"Yes Hana, I would very much like to share your Daddy with you."
"Okay Mommy."
I love my Hana.

We's famous
The people at the Art Farm have decided to use this picture in their next brochure. They seem to think it is a great picture. I think it sells crazy mommies more than kids having fun.

all better
Hana's cast came off today and she is now all better.
The Arm was a little stinky, a little itchy, a little flaky, a little covered with a sort of toe-jam like substance, but once we scrubbed her off she was as good as new. The removal process was a little terrifying. The doctor used this huge shop-vac looking thing with a spinning pizza cutter saw, which of course was super-super noisy, so Hana screamed and cried the entire time, but at some point, she seemed to make a face like, 'hey this doesn't actually hurt.' And she held still so it was all done very quickly, and then she celebrated her arms' newly found freedom. Hurray. And Mommy celebrated that the fantastic doctor somehow knew how to cut through the cast just enough to get it off, and not slice the little Hana in half. Yikes. And thank you to Aunty Elana for assisting in the holding down of the beast, and for moral support for the crazy Mommy.
As soon as we got home Hana washed her two hands off in the sink, and then asked if she could wash dishes (aka play with bubbles in the sink). And so she spent the first half hour of freedom scrubbing out the breakfast dishes that I had so wisely left in the sink for her use. Hurray again.

Yuck-o
Hana just ate half a can of mushrooms.
I was in the kitchen cooking and I heard her say "oh little piece, yummy!"
I had left an open can of sliced button mushrooms on the counter, and she found it and was munching away. I put some in a cup for her, and she just kept asking for more until the can was empty. Apparently Daddy has been feeding them to her off his plate for months now with out me realizing it. I suppose that it is good that she likes many different vegetables.

Good Shabbos
Today was a big day for Hana. We woke up and ate breakfast, and then got dressed and walked to shul. Hana walks 2 blocks in 5 minutes. So it took us 45 minutes to walk 15 blocks. We has to make a few stops to visit with dogs, look into store windows, eat, and various other important two-year-old activities. Hana was a very good girl at shul. She spent some time up with Mommy, and then decided that it was more fun to go see Daddy. And of course all the guys thought she was so cute, and the Rabbi Gave her a lollipop. Now we knew that this was going to happen, and we had decided in advance that we would not let her eat it, since she has never had candy, and we didn't really see any reason to start now, but of course when she got the lollipop she was far away from either of us, and our sweet friends helped her out when she said, "Hana eat it?" So as I watched from across the room, Hana had her first lollipop. Watermelon flavor. Yuck-o. I signaled to Daddy, and he brought her and the candy to me, and I took her down stairs and told her the candy was yucky and then threw it away. She assumed that I meant it was dirty or something, and so she replied, "get a new one, from Rabbi?" I mumbled some response and then distracted her with the fantastic corn chips that were set out for the kiddush. Hana loves chips. So then we had kiddush and Hana had a great time running around the social hall and eating cake and chips and drinking juice so she forgot all about the candy. Then we walked all the way home, and by this time she was totally exhausted, but she made it, and she ate some lunch, and as she ate she started squirming around and said, "Mommy, doo doo." So I took her into the bathroom, and she said, "Mommy, big toilet." So I put her up on the big toilet with her little seat adapter, and she proceeded to make her first giant doodie into the big toilet. Hurray! She has only once tinkled in her little pottie, (and twice next to it on the floor). She usually just sits there for a while and then says she is pau. So it was all very exciting that she went in the big toilet. Plus it was so much easier to clean up. Hurray! So I guess that made up for the lollipop. She got her reward in advance. And then we finished lunch and took a big nap all together on Mommy's bed. It was a good day.
