Amazing! Posted by Hello

picnic

Today we went for a fantastic picnic in Central Park. Daddy was able to sneak away from work and join us for a little while which was very nice. We walked up to the Conservatory gardens and looked at the flowers, and then set out our picnic blanket on the hill and had some lunch. We all ate bagels, even Hana. And then we just hung out in the sunshine. It was really beautiful. It is much nicer to sit in the park and have lunch than to sit at home watching bad Sunday TV. Hana was very well behaved. She sat on the blanket eating her bagel and watching all the other people and dogs walking by. She is such a big girl now. Hanging out having a picnic lunch. So cute.

Our weekend

Hana is teething again. Actually she has been all along, but now that her two top teeth are trying to push through, she is actively having the symptoms and pains of teething. Thus, no sleep for anyone in the family.

Friday night we had Shabbos dinner at KJ with the usual folks. Hana was already ready for bed when we set out for the dinner at 7:45pm, so that was a great start to the evening. She did pretty well considering she wanted to sleep the entire time, and by about 10pm she fell asleep in her stroller. This is something she hasn't done since she was three months old. Hopefully it wasn't a one time thing. It would make life much easier if she would be willing to sleep in public instead of being a beast.

For Saturday lunch we had Paige and her family over and for the first time Paige was old enough to actually play with Hana. It was absolutely hysterical. Paige would go in for the taste of Hana's face and Hana would push her away. Then Hana would try to grab Paige and Paige would cry. But both girls were fascinated with each other. They had a great time tying to get a better look at each other all afternoon. Then they both fell asleep. I guess it is very hard work staring at another baby.

Can I take the car Dad?

I love warm weather

Today we went for a nice big walk. First we stopped by the Y and found Daddy sleeping in a chair in the audience of the concert hall. They were on a break and I guess he sat down and fell asleep. Poor old Daddy. He is still feeling a little under the weather. We had a little visit with him and some of the other guys from the Y, and then we walked over to Central Park. It was a really nice day and as usual there were lots of people in the park. We walked over to the great lawn which is not opened yet for the season, and then we found some swings just above it. Hana once again had a great time on the swings. There were lots of other kids swinging, but all of them were toddlers. Hana was the only little baby with socks on her feet instead of shoes. Then we walked over to the west edge of the park, and then circled back and toward home. Hana once aging sat upright in her stroller the entire way and squealed for joy every time we passed a kid, or a dog or a pigeon. She loves going for walks. And Mommy loved that she is all tired out and ready for a nap when she gets home.

Swinging in the Park

More swings

Today we went to New Jersey to run some errands, and on the way we passed a lovely little park, and since it was so nice, we stopped and went on the swings. Hana had a great time swinging and making faces at Mommy and Daddy, and watching the other children at the park. Then we went to get pizza, and Hana ate the crust of my piece. She really likes food that she can hold. I just expected her to suck on the piece that I gave her, but she some how ate the entire thing. Gummed it to death. And the people at the pizza place said she was very cute, and even the bus boys were waving at her and trying to get her to smile at them. It was a very enjoyable day.

Wheeee!

Today to celebrate the incredible weather, Hana and Mommy went for a big walk along the river and to the play ground. Hana had a fantastic time watching the pigeons and the little kids, and the babies, and the puppies at the dog walk, and the big dogs walking around, and the old people who smiled at her, and the SWINGS! Hurray. We finally went on the swings. It was super sunny and warm out so of course I tried to get Hana to wear her sun hat, but no luck. She is very skilled at taking off hats and after fighting with her for several minutes I gave up and let the sun shine right into her face. I figured if it was in her eyes she would just have to squint. And of course even though she was fussing for a nap before we left the house she did not nap in the stroller at all. As soon as we left the house she sat straight up in her stroller as if she was trying to jump right out. With all the rain and sickness lately, I guess it has been a while since our last walk, and well, the last time we went out for a nice sunny day was back in February when we went to see The Gates. So she was super excited to go out, and now that she is so big and alert to the outside world, well, talking a walk is a whole new experience. She wants to look at everything at once. Twisting and flying her body in all directions to try to get a better view of something that went past, or some bird flying away. We walked all along the river by Carl Shultz Park and then over to the big playground at 85th Street, but it was so crowded that we decided to go back to the little playground right by our house. Why wait on line for a swing when you don't have to. So we went to Stanley Isaac's Park at 95th Street and had four nice baby swings all to our selves. You can see these swings from the window of our house, which some how is comforting. I like to think of the park as part of my back yard. It makes life in the city just a little nicer if you have a park near by. Anyway, Hana loved the swings, I think we will have to go all the time now. Luckily it is right across the street. By the time we got home, Hana was exhausted. She ate and then finally took her nap. It was a great day.

Still going

Daddy is sick now. He came home from work on Sunday night with a fever and unlike Hana and Mommy who only had a fever for one day, Daddy still has his. Plus the stomach ache business. Poor Daddy. Also unlike Hana and Mommy, Daddy has to go to work when he is sick, so maybe that is why he is taking longer to get better. I think I will make him some chicken soup. I want to go out and take a nice walk today anyway since the weather is so nice. Hurray for sunshine. Maybe we can finally get to the park and go on the swings.

And then there were four

FOUR TEETH!!!
Today we discovered that Hana has four teeth.
Three on the bottom and one on the top.
The one on the top is just barely showing, but the third one on the bottom is out a bit, so it must have been there a few days with out me noticing it. Sneaky little bugger.
Besides teething and chewing on everything, Hana is feeling much better and Mommy is too.

little sweety face

little sweety face

still ill

Well, Hana is feeling much better, but poor old Mommy still has the runs. After feeling better on Thursday, Friday was back down hill. Mommy was so sad, and it was very hard to take care of little Hana. At one point I flopped on the bed with Hana next to me and I just wanted to cry, and little Hana crawled over to me, and offered me her passy. She knew I was feeling lousy and that a passy can make you feel better. After that I tried my best to make sure that she didn't have to worry about me. I love my little baby.

Up and down and all around

Today every one was feeling a little better and the weather was nice, and Daddy had some time off during the day, so we got into the car and drove to Brooklyn. We to COSTCO and got diapers and some new baby books. They always have different books, and this time they had Dr. Seuss board which are great, and also baby einstein bath book. The bath book is good because it is all plastic so Hana can crew on it with out it getting all mushy. Plus it is a cute story about a little monkey baby taking a bath. Perfect for our little monkey baby.

After shopping we went for a visit at Uncle Joey's house in Park Slope. He lives in a really cool old house with a big garden, and a big dog. Hana didn't seem to mind the dog, but Mommy was overwhelmed by him so he had to stay outside while we were visiting.

After our visit, we stopped at home and picked up Baby Cat and went off to the Vet for her check up. Hana enjoyed herself at the vet. The big cat that lives there was very friendly. The doctor gave us a kit so we can collect a stool sample from the cat to be tested for parasites. Since Hana lives here now we have to be extra careful that our cat is very healthy so she does not pass on anything nasty.

We finally got home at 5:30pm and Hana was exhausted. She ate and went to sleep. Woke up an hour late, ate, slept another hour, ate, and then went down for the night. It was a big day.

This morning Mommy woke up with the runs, body ache, chills, head ache and fever.
Misery all day.
Sometimes it would be better if Hana did not share with Mommy.

Feeling a little better

Yesterday Hana's fever broke about 6:30pm when she woke up from her nap. I could tell right away because her cheeks were back to their normal color, and her head was not burning hot. Plus, she smiled for the first time all day, so that was a sure sign she was feeling better.

She went to bed at 7, and besides a little crying slept through the night, which she hasn't done for months. Then woke up at 7am, ate, played for 10 minutes, then back to bed, and slept until 10:30am. Very good.

She took it slow all day, she had one giant messy, horrible smelling BM, followed by a little one of the same smell, and then later a few farts of the same smell, and one big spit up which she aimed at Aunty, but other than that her symptoms seem to have passed. Hurray.

a little sick

Hana has a bug.
Saturday night she was sneezing a little, and by morning Sunday she had a drippy nose. Later in the day she had a BM followed by a diarrhea, and This morning she woke up screaming with a fever and more diarrhea. I gave her tylenol and talked to the nurse from her doctor's office. Since the weather was so bad today we decided not to bring her in, especially since there is not much they could do for her. The nurse said the stomach flu is going around, so we must have picked it up from one of those kids at the Purim parties we went to. We also had to get Pedialite to make sure Hana doesn't get dehydrated from the diarrhea, but she doesn't really want to drink it. And she only had diarrhea a few times, and is still peeing, so she is ok. At 6:30pm when she woke up from her latest nap her fever was down a little, so hopefully we are over the worst. Her cheeks were also not as red as earlier in the day. Poor little sweety. She was very unhappy today. Mostly naps and cuddling. Now she is starting to cough from the phlegm in her throat.

Having a sick baby is very hard. I feel terrible looking at her suffer and not being able to help more than offering a cuddle and some tylenol. I just want the doctor to have some magical pill that will make it all go away. It is very stressful for the mommy to not be able to provide for all her baby's needs.

Snot nosed kid

Well it has finally Happened. I looked over at Hana and she had snot running down her face. I had noticed her sneezing last night, and I had tried to suction her nose early this morning when I heard she was a little stuffed up, but this was the real proof of snot. My little bugger baby. I think she got her cold from her Daddy, but he claims to only have allergies and not a cold. Otherwise, it could have been from Paige who had a bit of congestion the other day. Either way, she is now a snot nosed kid.

Hana eats her first challah! Posted by Hello

More Purim

After the big night out at the Purim party, Hana went to bed late, but still woke up at 5am, and then at 7:30am, and 9:30am. And then with out her nap, we had to go to Rabbi Bleich's Purim Seudah. Now usually this would take place at the very end of Purim in the evening, but because it was almost Shabbos, the party was at 11:30am. So all tired out and with out her 11am nap, Hana went to another party. She did pretty well considering. The Rabbi's Purim Seudah takes place in his home which is set up as a dinner party. We sat at the Rabbi's table and Hana sat on my lap facing me. Rabbi Bleich tried to hold her, but she was not in the mood for that and cried as soon as she left my arms. So I held her, and played with her as I tried to eat my lunch. As the time went on Hana realized that the table was more interesting than my face, and she turned herself around and picked something off the table to eat. As it turned out, she chose a piece of challah, which she liked very much. It was her first challah, or any wheat for that matter, and she enjoyed it very much. Most of it ended up on the floor, or gummed up into slobbery balls that rolled onto my lap, but i think she got some of it into her system. She took it well, and has showed no signs of the wheat intolerance that some babies have. As we sat the other two little ones at the party came over to visit with Hana. They were both 1 year olds, but neither one looked any bigger than Hana. One of the Mommies asked how much Hana weighed, and when I told her about 22 pounds, she was amazed and said that her daughter was only 20 pounds and was 14 months old. This little baby was very cute and dresses up as a lady bug, and when I was carrying Hana around she wanted to be picked up too, so I scooped her up and with one babe on each hip I felt all together like a Mommy. Finally we went home and I go to rush to get ready for Shabbos.

PURIM!

This year Purim fell out on a Thursday night, so it ran into Shabbos, which made it a rush job, but still fun. Hana dressed up in her hapi coat and went to the big party at KJ. The place was jam packed, and we ended up hanging out in the corner with Paige and the Rabbi's kids to avoid the throng of grown-ups shoving to the food tables. This was the first time since Hana learned to crawl that she has been at a shul event, and I was worried about her being on the dirty floor, but once we got there I was more worried about her getting stepped on, so it all worked out. Hana had a great time, she is a social beast, and she loves kids and babies especially, but this time she got more than she asked for. Since she was on the floor and out of the protection of Mommy, the Rabbi's kids who are 1 and 4 felt that she had finally grown to their stage and got right up in her face and started their crazed little kid talking and screaming and jumping all over the place and sweet little Hana very quickly got overwhelmed and started crying. Immediately Mommy swooped in and saved the day, chasing the giant kids away and cuddling little Hana, the tiny baby. Well, that's how I saw it anyway. In reality the two big kids kept after Hana even after I had picked her up. They were so excited to see her and play with her that it took several people to distract them and get them away. After that Hana spent some time playing with little Paige who is much less aggressive, and then we went home. It was a long night, and poor Hana didn't get to bed until very late.

Super Cute! Posted by Hello

Super Cute

Hana is super cute. Not just regular cute, or very cute, but super cute. Today I put little clips in her hair to try to keep her ever growing bangs back, and I was just overcome with how cute she is. Absolutely amazing. So of course I took pictures. And tonight is purim. We are going to the KJ megillah reading and party. Hana is going to wear the little hapi coat that Aunty got for her. It's not a full on costume because she would get annoyed and tear off any hats or decorations that were on her so the costume has to be more like regular clothes. Besides, if people ask what she is dressed up as, I can just say, "super cute".

A Sunny Day

Today it was sunny and nice out so Hana and Mommy decided to go out for a walk. We went and did all of Mommy's errands, and then stopped by Paige's house for a little visit. Paige was sleeping when we got there, so we just hung out in the living room playing with her toys. She has a very nice big yellow block that Hana really liked. And she has a very nice high chair, so Hana decided to have some lunch while we were there. We tried a new food, Mango Dessert. Hurray for Beechnut baby foods and cool flavors. Hana officially likes mango. What a huge surprise, considering she comes from a mango farming family. After we ate, Paige woke up and her Mommy went and brought her out. Hana was so excited to see her, she screamed and waved her arms up and down and almost jumped out of my arms. Paige looked at her and burst into tears. I guess she was overwhelmed by the fantastic show of love. Luckily she calmed right down and we had a nice visit, and then we came home, had a bath and went to bed.

Brave Little Hunter

On Sunday mornings I wake up and clean the kitchen of the mess left from Shabbos. I usually do this while Hana is taking her first nap of the day, but today she was up, so I let her come play on the floor while I worked. Now she plays in the kitchen all the time while I cook, but early mornings are usually time for Mommy and cat to spend some time together in the kitchen, so Baby Cat was also in on the floor tying to get my attention. Hana loves the cat. She goes crazy when she sees her up close and she just can't resist the urge to grab her tail. Well, poor Baby Cat does her best to dart past Hana when ever she needs to get around her, but today Hana sat right in the middle of the doorway and as the cat tried to dodge, Hana pinned the cat. That's right, my little 22 pound babe hunted and pounced, and caught herself a 10 pound cat.

Waaaaaaaah!

Yesterday we went out for a walk with Paige and her Mommy. We met at the post office on 91st and Third Avenue, and then decided to walk northward into Spanish Harlem. The sun was out, and it was a nice walk. Plus we didn't have to fight for space on the sidewalk since not very many other Upper East Side moms were walking around in that area. We passed a big playground that had baby swings and once again I must say that I can't wait until it is warmer so Hana can go on the swings. There were lots of older kids playing at the playground, but the baby swings were all empty. No babies out playing in the cold.

Then later Aunty and Uncle came over to have a pint of Guinness in celebration of Irish American Heritage Day. Hana woke up to visit with them for a little while around 9pm, and then went back to bed. She slept until 2:30am, woke up a little, then slept until 5:15am when she woke up screaming and screaming and wouldn't even calm down to nurse, she just wanted to sit up but she was so tired she could barely do that. Crying and Crying, waking up Daddy by screaming DA DA DA DA DA DAAAAH and hitting him in the face. It was a crazy waking nightmare. She finally went back to sleep in her bed at 6:30am and slept until 8am. She has been up and down for naps ever since then. She is obviously exhausted. My theory is that she is defiantly in the stage where babies try to sit up and crawl in their sleep. According to the baby books this is the age when they are so intent on learning their new skills that they do it in their sleep and then can't figure out how to stop, or how to relax and sleep so they just cry inconsolably. Hopefully she will master her new skills soon. Mommy and Daddy are very tired.

Corral

Today we went shopping for baby gates. I decided that I didn't really want gates on the kitchen and bath room at this point, mainly because our poor old cat would not be able to get over them, and she needs access to those rooms for her food and bathroom facilities. So we had to find another way of keeping the wee babe out of mischief. We got locks for the cabinets where we keep things she definitely should not have, which of course are not the right ones. I wonder if any parent ever buys the right cabinet locks the first time. Anyway, so we got locks, and we also got Hana a play yard. 18.5 square feet of play space for our little monkey where she cannot get a hold of any thing she is not supposed to be playing with. I figured that when I can watch her closely she can run free, and when I know that I will need to turn my back, like when I am on the computer or folding laundry, then she can sit in her play yard and enjoy her toys. And so, we have a corral in the middle of our living room.

Who invented headbands for babies? Posted by Hello

Big girl

Hana is growing up very fast. She can now scoot around very well. Her two arms are crawling, and one leg is behaving, and the other leg is crossed and she sort of drags it along with out extending it so that she can be sure to be able to sit back up. She still can't get into a sitting position on her own so she is careful not to flop onto her tummy unless she really has to. But she does go from sitting to crawl and then back up very easily. And she can get across the floor in a manner of seconds so it is all together a new experience in house cleaning for Mommy. I caught her eating the kitchen throw rug the other day. Very yucky. And I have never swiffered so often in my life. It is amazing how she will find the littlest piece of dust on the floor and stick it in her mouth.......Wait, update, I just saw her do what I said she couldn't do. She was sitting up and she saw something she wanted and reached forward for it all the way onto her belly, and then she slowly pushed her self back into sitting position! And then she called me to make sure that I had seen too. It is amazing how she knows when she has done something new and she wants to tell me about it. I am so proud of her. Also, she has started tugging on her clothes and calling out to me when she has made a poopie and wants to be changed. Which is very helpful. And since she enjoys playing peek-a-boo where the other person hides and then pops out, she now likes to hide too. When she is in bed she lifts the covers over her head very slowly and then pulls them down fast with a big smile and I yell peek-a-boo! and she laughs and then does it again and again. It is fantastic to play games with little Hana.

Tofu

Many time during Shabbos lunch Hana wants to be held or fed or played with instead of playing by her self, or napping, so this Shabbos I thought we would try something else. First before we started eating Daddy fed her some squash so she wouldn't be hungry, and then when we were having our meal, we gave her some tofu pieces on her tray. This is the first time she has had any finger food. She has not really developed the ability to pick things up with two fingers, and is still using the mitten grasp that little babies have so it was very hard for her to manipulate the little pieces of tofu and get them into her mouth but she really enjoyed trying. Mostly she smashed them up and made a mess, but she did get the idea of what she was supposed to do with the tofu, and she got to work on her motor skills, and try a new food, and she kept herself busy and quiet for a good 20 minutes. All together it was a very successful try of a new food.

Little Sleeper Posted by Hello

Hungry and sleepy

After not eating much yesterday, Hana woke up at the usual 5am this morning and ate. She also woke up at 6am and ate, and at 7am and ate. She got up at 8am, napped from 9am to 10am, ate at 10:30am and back to sleep at 10:45am.

Also, Hana has a freckle on her cheek. It wasn't there before. But it is very cute. It is her first little freckle. I will try to get a picture of it when she wakes up.

Snow

Today it snowed again. Hana woke up at 4:30am, ate and went to sleep in my bed. She woke again when Daddy was getting up for work around 6am, and then woke again at 8:30am. I fed her and put her back in her bed and then she slept until 10:20am. She woke up and played, and I fed her the rest of her green beans from yesterday, and then at 11am she took a nap for an hour and a half. She got up and played until 1pm and then wanted another nap. This time it was only for 45 minutes, and she got up and played again. By 3:30pm she wanted another nap, and she slept for an hour. From 4:30pm to 6:30pm she was behaving strangely in that she was not really interested in having her milk even though she hadn't really nursed much since 8:30am. I kept offering when she acted hungry, but she would not really eat very much. By 6:30pm she was very tired, but didn't want to sleep at all. I put her in her bed and she yelled and kicked and wiggled up to the top of her bed. So I took her out to play, but she was too tired and just cried when I put her on the floor. She only quieted when I held her. I think maybe her teeth were bothering her, or maybe her tummy. She had three little firm poopies yesterday, and one larger but still pretty solid one today, so that may have been bothering her. I don't know. Maybe she just wanted to be held. Anyway, I finally got her into her bed at 9:30pm, and she cried a little and then went to sleep. And it is 17 degrees outside. I can't wait for warm weather.

A Nice Day

Yesterday Hana slept all day so we never got out for a walk. As soon as she woke up she would eat, and then yawn and rub her eyes and want to go back for another nap. It was all together odd. But today, I knew the weather was going to be nice so as soon as she was up and fed we headed out for a nice long walk. We walked to 68th street and visited with the folks at Hunter College. Every one said Hana was very cute and so nice and looked just like her Daddy. And I bought Hana a banana and squished it up in the peel and then let her suck on it whole. She really liked it. And it was funny watching her figure out how to eat it. At first she sucked on it like she was nursing, and then she looked at it confused, and then she tried biting it and that seemed to work better. She made a big mess, but really enjoyed her first whole banana. And since it was 63 degrees today, we walked around some more, and Hana slept on the way home, and it was a very nice day.

Little face Posted by Hello

Updates

Hana is working very hard at trying to do sit-ups. She wants to be able to get into the sitting position on her own, so every time you lay her down she does what amounts to a very cute little crunch/sit-up. Red face and grunting included. It is very cute. And she is scooting around the floor very well now. And we still do not have baby gates or locks on the cabinets. BAD Mommy and Daddy. And the tooth is coming in very well, it is about a quarter of the way in now, although it is hard to get a look at it since as soon as you try to see it the tongue hides it, or the mouth clenches shut. Your only chance is during a smile, and even then, if you get too close she will clam up and hide the tooth. I think she knows that I want to see it and is keeping it to herself. It is her little treasure. And, we have some new foods. Hana now eats pears, peaches, apricots, prunes, apples & oatmeal, apples and cherries, along with the old carrots, peas, bananas and rice cereal.
.....Oh dear, she has scooted her self away again. She is trying to eat my scarf. I better go save it.

Shopping

Yesterday we went to Brooklyn. We went to COSTCO for diapers and then over to the kosher supermarket for all the fine kosher food at fantastic Brooklyn prices. Hana really enjoys COSTCO. She sits in the cart and looks around and smiles at everyone. It seems to be her favorite store (this seems to run in the family). Hana had eaten at 11:30am right before we left the house, and so was feeling fine when we were at COSTCO having slept in the car on the way, but as it was only about 30 minutes, and not the full hour nap, the good feelings only went so far. By the time we got to the kosher market she was pretty tired and fussy and poor Daddy had hold her while mommy shopped and even then she was not at all happy. We found lots of nice things at the market including Hana's Beech Nut brand baby food. So it was a very successful trip. And then we got back in the car and drove home and got stuck in traffic so Hana got a nice long nap on the way home. She is such a good baby.

Sleep Hana

Well, It has been a long couple of weeks as far as sleep. Hana has taken to waking up at night starting around the time when she was teething. And lately it has reached a high point. Tuesday night she went to bed at 7pm, woke at 9pm to eat, then again at 1am, 4am, 7am, and then woke up for the day at 9am. So really, I have been just too tired to think of anything to say on the blog. She hasn't waken this much since she was two weeks old so I am just not used to it. But, luckily last night sweet little Hana went to bed at 10pm, and slept until 5am, when she moved into my bed, ate, and then slept until 9am. Hurray. I actually feel like a person this morning.

Hana's dolly Posted by Hello

Girls Day

Today is girls day.
Hana got a beautiful little doll from Obachan.
She is little girl doll in a sitting position. She has a round face like Hana's, and black yarn hair with a big red bow. She is wearing a pink kimono with red obi and a gold cord, and little black ghettas. She has a little music box inside, and dances when she plays. Hana loves her little dolly.

I think Hana needs to eat more food. When she was very little and started to sleep though the night the nurse said it was because she was getting enough calories during the day and so she could sleep 11 hours at night. So, now she goes to bed at 9pm, wakes at 11pm to eat, and then at 4 am and then at 7am, and then gets up at 9am. So clearly she now needs to eat at night and is not getting enough calories during the day. So, I am going to start giving her solid food twice a day instead of just once and we'll see if that makes a difference. She is not acting hungry during the day, but Mommy would like to get some uninterrupted sleep once in a while.
